Bet most of you people is asking some very valid question. Why is there a surcharge when you use the Touch n Go when you enter a parking? To be honest, not say that we can’t afford the 20 sen for the surcharge but we need to understand why is there a need for this?
Logic thinking la, if we use Touch n Go, we are not taking any token or tickets and we are not using those payment machines or cashier. Isn’t that lesser effort for them, so why we are still being charged extra for using the Touch n Go?
So here is what Touch n Go has to say.
“The reality is, the surcharge goes into the operation and maintenance of the TnG infrastructure. Very little of these charges go back to TnG. The charges cater for the maintenance cost and system upgrades, which are important aspects in maintaining an efficient and hassle-free parking system to customers. It is an agreed charge between the parking operators, building owners and Touch n Go, and the proceeds are shared by these parties at the applicable parking locations,” the company explains.
So in short, The Touch n Go has say that the additional charges serve as service fee for the extra convenience offered and to cover the maintenance and operation costs of the system, on top of the conventional ticketing system service.
But seriously, even with the explanation, this is causing some inbalance in us the consumer. Why need to pay extra when use Touch n Go. If taking overseas for example, there is even rebate if you use the Touch n Go.
However on the good side, Touch n Go has informed that they will be working effort to add more Touch n Go enabled parking sites without surcharge. This needs time as it’s work in progres but we can see that there are more and more of the no surcharge cashless parking sites.
We are keeping the finger cross and hoping that this no surcharge trend continues and we the consumer will have lesser complains to make
