If you currently own a MacBook or a MacBook Pro and facing some faulty when you’re typing, you can likely get a new keyboard fix for free
The big news is that Apple has announced a Keyboard Service Program for selected Macbook models and you could get it entirely replaced even if it’s out of warranty and no longer covered by AppleCare.
Here is what is according to Apple that a small number of keyboards having issue where letters or characters being repeated unexpectedly or it isn’t responsive at all. This also includes the issue of keys feeling “sticky” or does not respond in a consistent manner.
There are only selected MacBook that are eligible for this Keyboard Service Program and the models are as listed below:
- MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
- MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016)
- MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
So how do you check which model your Macbook is?
You can simple check by going into Apple Menu > About this Mac.
Of course you don’t change because you want but the keyboard would need to be examined by Apple’s authorised service providers, before you can replaceof affected keys or the whole keyboard.
The duration of repair will depend on the availability of parts and it is advisable that you perform a full backup before you send your MacBook in.
