Who would have imagine that even TNB is now set to become an Internet Provider!
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) as what we all known is an electric utility company but now they seems to be diversifying their portfolio. Now, besides from supplying electricity for Peninsular Malaysia, the company is read to make a move to provide broadband on their existing infrastructure.
This is to support the new government’s National Connectivity Plan, and TNB is kicking off their pilot project in Jasin, Melaka. The aim is to provide faster, cheaper and wider internet accessibility for Malaysians. This will be a new High Speed Broadband (HSBB) network and it could connect underserved areas that are not covered by existing fibre broadband providers.
As reported by The Star, TNB chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie said the initiative would allow faster, cheaper and wider Internet connectivity. He has mentioned:
“The households will gain access to a HSBB network that would be made available through TNB’s fibre optics, which form part of our existing communication network,”
This indeed sounds like good news for us consumer as with the TNB’s entry, could potentially signal the end of TM’s monopoly in the fixed-line HSBB space and bring about competition at the network access level.
In short, that means we will be getting cheaper internet with higher speed!! Hoooorrayyy!
