The department store was founded in Singapore 162 years ago in 1858.
Robinsons Singapore at Jem recently closed its shutters in August this year. Where Malaysian newspaper The Sun Daily reported that two Robinsons outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will be going through the same liquidation process as well. The Robinsons outlet at The Gardens Mall was opened in 2007 while the one at Shoppes at Four Seasons Place opened in 2018.
Plus, Robinsons at Singapore has just announced some Shocking news as they will be closing down their 2 stores in the Heeren and Raffles City where they are currently facilitating final sales before they are shutting down for good. On another side of news, Robinsons is liquidating its two department stores in The Heeren and Raffles City Shopping Centre, the retailer said on Friday (Oct 30).
Corporate advisory and restructuring firm KordaMentha’s Mr Cameron Duncan and Mr David Kim have been appointed as provisional liquidators, said Robinsons. The provisional liquidators will now take control of the company’s assets and assess options to realize the value in order to maximize returns to creditors.
Staff will be paid, Robinsons employees were informed of the news on Oct. 30. The company mentioned that employees will be paid in line with the next payment cycle. Liquidators will also work with The Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers’ Union (SMMWU), E2i and the NTUC Job Security Council to ensure that employees will be supported.
“Subject to confirmation, the liquidators are hoping the stores will remain open for the coming weeks to facilitate final sales for customers before they are shuttered,” Robinsons added in a statement. And this is indeed some shocking news after Robinson has been operating here for 162 years.
