Firefly Might Becomes New National Airline if MAS Shuts Down
Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund is the first public statement after a letter was sighted by Reuters last week that Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) would close down its flagship airline MAS if the lessor did not agree to a steep discount, where a report by Berita Harian has mentioned that Khazanah’s managing director Datuk Sharil Ridza Ridzuan has mentioned that the negotiation with the lessor is still ongoing and the matter will be revealed after the restructuring becomes solid.
Among the few alternatives which Khazanah is considering is ending the financing for Malaysia Airlines and channel the funds to firefly instead to expand its operations. However, the Firefly is offering domestic routes and connecting passengers to Southern Thailand, Singapore, and Sumatera of Indonesia which is a low-cost carrier flight company.
