Police are Looking for the Group of Men in Kajang Beating Up Foreigner For Selling Pirated Shirts

On 3 May, a video of a group of men beating up a foreigner went viral on social media wherein the video a group of men was seen arguing about an issue before the whole situation escalated to slapping the foreigner. In several posts on Facebook claimed that the incident was orchestrated by a group of suspects consisting of the leader and followers of a non-government organization (NGO) who were angry with the suspect for selling pirated shirts from the NGO.
The incident was reported to have happened along the sidewalk of shop premises at No.28, Jalan Alam Jaya 19, Taman Alam Jaya Batu 9 Cheras, Kajang. The Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said the investigation started as soon as the video recording reached the knowledge of the Vice, Gambling, and Blackmail Division (D7) team of the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) today.
The result of the initial investigation showed that a man who is believed to be a foreigner was assaulted by a group of men named Yusuf Azmi, brother Ali and some of his followers. The result of the examination on this video also found that the group of suspects has violated some standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Conditional Movement Control Order (PKPB) by gathering and not maintaining physical distancing.
The Kajang IPD lodged a police report regarding this incident for further investigation and the case was classified under Section 147 of the Penal Code (rioting) and if convicted, the suspects could be sentenced to two years in prison or a fine, or both. For the offense of violating the SOPs of the CMCO, the case is being investigated in accordance with Section 269 of the Penal Code / 22 (b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
