Maybank Debit Card Transaction Offers Notification Via App Only and Not by SMS
Starting 3 December 2020 onwards, if you are a Maybank Debit Card user, you will no longer receive SMS messages or notifications regarding your debit card transaction, as Maybank has announced that they will no longer update consumers via SMS but instead changing it to alert via Maybank app instead.
However, the SMS alert will only apply if you are making transactions made via online, mail, or telephone order (MOTO) or use your debit card for the first time. While for transactions at POS (Point of Sale) terminals, SMS alerts will only be sent out when the transaction amount exceeds rm500 above which is still a great feature. However, to allow this feature, you will have to activate the feature via the steps below.
Maybank also mentions that this notification feature will be available even if you are abroad as long as your phone is connected to the internet. The new notification will provide you details of the amount, location of the transaction, date of transaction, time of the transaction, and Maybank’s contact number, and payments made in a foreign currency will be indicated in that particular currency.
