Govt Amend FINAS Act after Public Backlash Over Licensing Issue On Social Media

The Perikatan Nasional has decided to amend the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) Act 1981 after a public backlash over the requirement for a license to produce any type of video. On 24 Jul, the Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said that the Cabinet has agreed to amend the FINAS Act to ensure it is up to date with the current times.

As earlier there has been a lot of debate regarding this issue after declared this issue in Dewan Rakyat which enrages lots of backlash from the public out there due to the new age of social media are growing nowadays. While later on, he seemingly backtracked from his response and said that the act was from a decade ago and the government has no intention to control individual freedom for social media users.
