These little black dots are actually called frit a semi-transparent glossy substance that serves for 2 specific purposes. These black edges from the windshield provide an etched surface that allows the adhesive to bond to the glass and during installation the glass is bonded to the vehicle with the frit as the contact point among the glass and the frame.
The frits hand actually serve 2 purpose which is a shield against ultraviolet sun rays in order to prevent the adhesive bond, the frit also has an aesthetic purpose as it nicely conceals the adhesive on the installation of the windshield.
While the black dots in halftone pattern are helping to distribute the template evenly to lessen optical distortion into the glass called lensing. In addition, these black dots are helping the glasses to bend during hot oven time and lastly, it looks more visually pleasing also compare to a transparent old design glass.
