Bank Manager Left 5 Figure Salary to Pursue A Farmer Life
Kenny Soon We Hong, an ex-bank manager who left his career as a bank manager to pursue his childhood dream of living the simple life as a farmer. He said that in order to achieve this goal, he has to earn a decent amount of money and acquire some experience in life so as starting he followed the normal path where he studied in university, graduated, found a job, and work in the bank until reached the bank manager position.
Kenny who is also a father of 3 children explained that he only started his farm during his age of 30 years old and he started by doing a lot of studying and research as he learns much more that he had to deal with problems such as weather and pest that threatened to ruin his plants when he first started. He also enrolled in an agricultural course run by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries to gain knowledge and tried his best to meet people in the industry who were willing to teach him.
8 year later, he finally living his dream where he bought a 2.8ha of land in Bakri, Muar, and now runs a farm of over 2,000 banana trees, 450 coconut trees, 150 goats, and hundreds of chickens and ducks. He also planted various other fruits and vegetables such as chili, sweet potatoes, jackfruit, cempedak, mangoes, lime, papaya, starfruit, pineapple, guava, and even groundnuts.
He is proud to employ environmentally friendly methods on his farms where they make compost from excess food and animal feeds and using animal waste as fertilizer as well.
Staying humble, he hopes to encourage more people to get involved in farming
