5 Elder Council Also Being Announce Today
During today’s announcement, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad has announced a core list of three new cabinet ministers today. The other seven portfolios are to be released later.
- Minister of Finance: Lim Guan Eng
- Minister of Defense: Haji Mohamad Sabu bin Sabu
- Minister of Home Affairs: Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin bin Haji Mohd
In today’s announcement, Tun Mahathir has suprisingly announce the 5 Elder councils. These 5 Elder Council seems to be something that Malaysia has never had before.
So the major question is what does these 5 Elder Council do? These elder will be the person who will serve as advisors to the government and they be the person who will conduct research and advice the cabinet in key areas in the country to help form better policies for the future.
So who are these council? The members of this council are:
1. Tun Daim Zainuddin
Tun Abdul Daim bin Zainuddin is a Malaysian businessman, politician and a former Finance Minister of Malaysia from 1984 to 1991. He is a great candidates as It was also recognised that during his tenure as the Finance Minister, he has implemented four broad strategic structural reforms during the 1986 to 1991 period namely the mobilisation of the private sector, active external policies, the supportive role of the private sector and the rehabilitation of the public enterprises. To this day, the tenets of his economic policies are held in high esteem and are continually pursued to either jump start or sustain the Malaysian economy.
2. Tan Sri Zeti Aziz
Tan Sri Zeti Aziz was the 7th Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Malaysia’s central bank. She was Bank Negara governor from 2000 to 2016, and was the first woman in the position. She is the best candidate of the Elder council as her achievement was brilliant during her tenure as Governor of Bank Negara. Though some questions on her involvement in 1MDB
3. Tan Sri Hassan Marican
Tan Sri Hassan Marican was the Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) former president and CEO. He has being very knowledgeable and experience in running the big company and he is capable to be in part of the Elder Council
4. Robert Kuok
Guess nobody doesn’t know this guy. Robert Kuok is also known as Sugar King. He is a Malaysian Chinese business magnate and investor. According to Forbes, his net worth is estimated at $12.2 billion on July 2017, making him the richest person in Malaysia. Robert kuok is big in china. He’s a good leverage to deal with China! He is one of the team member that will help to bring Malaysia to the next level
5. Prof. Jomo Kwame Sundaram
Prof Jomo Kwame Sundaram who also known as Jomo, is a prominent Malaysian economist. e has received several honours and awards for his work including the 2007 Wassily Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought. He is widely recognized as an outspoken intellectual, with unorthodox non-partisan views
