Finally WeChat Pay is Here in Malaysia!
What’s the new talk of the town? Has to be WeChat Pay is finally launching in Malaysia.WeChat Pay has been huge payment method in China and now it has finally reached the Malaysian’s shore. This has been done secretly and without any official announcement, the local wallet in MYR has been quietly made available to Malaysia.
In case you didn’t know, Malaysia will be the first country to receive WeChat Pay in our local currency—the ringgit, RM. Why Malaysia?
If we are to look at the Chinese population which is closest to China in terms of language and culture, we have to be the country that easily has the most in the world out of China
“Malaysia is actually quite large in the sense that we have 20 million WeChat users, huge potential, and the market is quite warm towards internet products from China,” said Tencent senior vice president SY Lau.
Therefore, it makes perfect sense for Tencent to launch WeChat Pay first in Malaysia.
The next question you have is how do you activate this?
Here is the step by step on how you can activate the WeChat Pay
1. You first need to ensure that your region is pointed correctly. If you might be on the wrong region but this set is just to ensure you are on the right track
Once you have completed doing the above, then you are ready for the next step where you can insert your payment details to your WeChat Pay.

That’s all to get you setup and you are ready to use your WeChat Pay. Good thing is that WeChat has a link to your bank and you can withdraw your WeChat balance to any 29 banks at anytime.
This is so much better than the restricted Touch n Go
For now as this is still new, there isn’t many merchant partners but surprisingly you can top up your mobile prepaid via WeChat Pay already
There are mobile operator like Celcom, Maxis, Digi, Umobile, Tune, XOX and many more that you can use the WeChat Pay to do your top up!
