TNB With New Smart Meter INstallation Expansion Which You Need To Know
The Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is expanding one of their smart meters is more premises nationwide soon where the new connected meter will provide a more efficient and accurate power consumption reading where so far TNB has successfully installed 340,000 smart meters in Melaka and they are planning to install another 1.2 million units for residential and commercial premises in the Klang Valley. These new devices will cover up to 9 million premises by 2021.
This new Smart meter is using a remote system where the user with smart meter now can view their energy usage within 30 minutes intervals from myTNB portal or my TB app and the smart meter also use Radio Frequency (FR) at 2.4 GHz which are a similar frequency as Bluetooth or Wifi and TNB will install RF pillars around your area which is then able to collect data from your power usage, and there are additional security measures such as data encryption, authentication and password protection in the smart meter system and network.
The smart meter installation is currently being done in stages and it will take up to 30 – 60 minutes with all appliances must be switched off temporarily. If you are in the selected area, TNB will inform the customer about the meter replacement 30 days in advance.
