The JB-SG RTS Link Station Look like the Futuristic MCO of Asgard from the Marvel Movies
The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has unveiled the design for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link (RTS) Project’s Bukit Chagar station where it look somehow resembles the architectures from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Asgard.
The design which comes from the Johor Bahru-based architect Ar. Chin Yee Chong from SM Architects Sdn Bhd where it was designed from the theme of The Integration of Two which represent the historical relationship between JB and Singapore. The design has won the grand prize at the PAM + MRT Corp RTS Link Station Facade Design Ideas Competition which was organized by MRT Corp and Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM). As the competition ran from2 3rd of November 2020 to 25th January 2021 and there is around 91 submission and Ar Chin brought home it grand prize of RM250,000 of the grand prize.
The design has adopted many green features as well as advance lightweight composite materials which are also using the self cleaning glass, features lots of natural sunlight which help reduced the cost of maintenance.
MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim mentioned that the four-storey building will be used to co-locate the Immigration, Custom and Quarantine (CIQ) too, and he also added that commuters will need to clear both Singapore and Malaysian immigration which need to be done in the same building. The RT Link route is 4 km and will connect this station in Bukit Chagar to Singapore’s Woodland North MRT Station. The 2.7 km of the route will be in Malaysia while the remaining 1.3 km will be in Singapore.
The service will apparently able to take commuters form station to station in just five minutes after clearing immigration, and it can carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Malaysia has started construction on its side of the infrastructure in November 2020. The line is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026 and this project will create 1,500 job opportunities while the completed station in Bukit Chagar is expected to bring about 15,000 more jobs such as F&B services and entertainment.
