Telco Giants Celcom and Digi Will Merge Together

On April 8, Celcom Axiata Bhd is merging with Digi.com Bhd where this move could potentially create the biggest mobile service provider in Malaysia, and talks about the merger had previously raised concern that it would squeeze competition. The merging between the two would involve operations in Malaysia.
This merging will benefits both telco as each party will not hold a controlling stake in the merged entity and some analysts have described the move as logical where the mobile service industry now requires large capital expenditure in a low growth era. All structured warrants relating to Digi.com and trading of Axiata and Digi.com shares were suspended yesterday morning pending an announcement.
