Penang Iconic Ferries Will be Retiring and Replaced with Pedestrian Catamaran only
During the parliament session on 7 December, the Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that he was informed by the Ministry of Transport’s (MOT) on their plans to replace the ferries service starting from mid-2022, as this ferry will be terminated and replaced with catamarans which have no space for vehicles.
In response, Wee Ka Siong mentioned that every year there are around 200,000 vehicles on board with the ferries while there are 1.2 million pedestrians where the catamarans would be more sufficient to meet this demand and there are lacking spare parts for these ferries and a lot of netizens were saddened by this news which they feel that the nostalgic about this ferries should remain as it has existed for a long time in Penang.
