PDRM Officers Arrested for extorting RM20k from a Man He Claims As Illegally Buying Lottery Number
The cases of police officer getting arrested in our country has seems on the rise lately, where on 23 December a PDRM officer was arrested for driving against traffic under the influence of alcohol. As of recently, another two police were arrested for accusing a 57-year-old Malaysian man for checking his phone without any solid evidence and later extorted him for RM20,000 as the victim was on his way to Cameron Highlands when the suspects in the police patrol car stopped him.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal mentioned that the suspect check the victim’s mobile phone and wanted to arrest him for allegedly buying lottery number illegally. According to Astro Awani, the suspected extorted Rm20,000 from the victim in order for them to not take any actions against him and as the suspect insisted that he could only afford to give RM4,000 while the suspect pressured him for at least Rm5,000.
Nik Ezanee added that the 2 police officers from Sri Hartamas Police Station later brought the victim to a petrol station for him to withdraw his money and he was released after giving the money to the officers. While the police arrested the 30-year-old officer around 2pm on 24 December and 7 hours later, his 38 year old partner was arrested in the same area too. Both suspects are currently being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
