With everyone who is getting to the new habit of purchasing things online and tossing away your empty box after collecting your parcel items from the box, where mostly your identity of information are being stuck on the outer box. Where it can actually lead to a scammer to trace all the information and use it back on you.
As a video which has gone viral recently where a scammer obtains a person private information from the discarded delivery package and the scammer started calling and harassing the customer for money and the scammer even went up to the person house and disguise as a delivery worker asking for the COD payment from a fake product.
In response to this, the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob has mentioned that most of the time the scammer will use method like this to scan the barcode and use this information to scam the owner for such parcel. As police have not yet received any complaint of such cases, the investigation will be conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code which states that a 1- year prison sentence and canning will be carried out for such offenses.
Therefore, the public must always carefully dispose of this package that contains your personal information, and if you are expecting any packages delivered to your house, make sure you inform your family members and update them on the payment status whether the package is fully paid or some COD fees are required. Plus, Datuk Zainal also urges that never perform any cash on delivery terms unless you got a confirmation from the person who made the order.
