Owh owh … Plastic Straws Will Be Banned in These Area Starting 1st Jan 2019

by September 23, 2018

no-more-straw - News There are more and more initiative on not using the plastic straw as a movement to reduce the usage of plastic for the environmental friendly. There were several famous restaurants that have been pushing on this initiative and they have stop giving out plastic straws to customers

Now this initiative has spread out and it looks like our government is getting much more serious about this straw banning initiative as per reported by The Star, straws will be banned across all federal territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan) and this would be effective by 1st Jan 2019!

They are really serious as according to our Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Mohd Ikhsan, he has mentioned that if any businesses which are still found to be using plastic straws in 2019, will risk having their business licences terminated.

“Business owners may also be fined, lose their deposits, have their trading items confiscated or even be imprisoned. “The ban on plastic straws is in addition to the ban on plastics bags and polystyrene food packaging, which started in September last year (2017). “The requirements are clearly stated in their business licences, so there is no excuse for the business owners to claim ignorance.”Local authorities will not hesitate to take action according to its by-laws,”

To be honest, we do think that this is a good initiative as this would defo gonna help our environment. You might not know but plastic straws are actually very hard to recycle, are not biodegradable, and they can also threaten ocean wildlife.
