This malware pretends it is requesting the user to install a fake files update from Huawei

If you happen to receive a WhatsApp message with a suspicious link embedded, you shouldn’t click on it as this might be the new wormable malware which has been spreading on Android devices via WhatsApp. This malware is discovered by some security companies and according to this researcher, the malware uses WhatsApp’s quick reply feature to send messages with the malicious links as replies.

Where once the malware successfully hijacked your WhatsApp, it will prompt users to download and install a fake Huawei app which it will grant it permission to read notifications as well as run in the background of your devices. And in additional, it will also ask user to allow it to draw over other app.

This malware in its current form are capable of sending automatic replies to other WhatsApp contacts. However, this could be extended to other messaging apps which support Android’s quick reply function to such as SMS, email, social media, groups chats and more. To protect yourself from such malware, always verify that the app you are downloading is made by a genuine developer and scrutinize every permission in the app before granting it.
