New Covid-19 Strain Similiar to the New One found in 3 Other Country Found In Malaysia
The Health Ministry mentioned on Wednesday, 23 December that the new Covid-19 strain was found after a sample taken in Sabah. As The Ministry’s Director-General, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah mentioned that they are currently still unknown whether the strain of this “A701B” mutation – is more infectious than usual.
This new virus, which is similar to the one in South Africa, Australia, and the Netherlands where detected after 60 samples were taken from the Covid-19 patients under the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster in Sabah and currently this straight might has a high infectivity level which is more aggressive than usual.
The D614G mutation of Covid-19 which hit Kedah around August which has witnessed a rapid rise in infections as the current Covid-19 mutation found in the United Kingdom which was also said to be highly infectious.
Currently, the government did not intend to backtrack the mandatory quarantine ruling from 10 days to 14 days due to the discovery of the UK mutation as there is not much difference between 10 – 14 days of isolation. As most of the individuals will develop symptoms within the first week.
