M’sian Uses Analysis Data to Shows Local Property Rental Website has Racism Specifically Towards M’sia’s Indians
A local Malaysian decided to share from his Twitter account, Pingalayen regarding the current issue of Racism when it comes to renting a room or house in the Klang Valley market. As he finds that it is difficult for him to find a place to stay in Kuala Lumpur since he comes down from Alor Setar after his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), with his research on local property rental website. Here is what he found out:
- 10,000 rental listings on the local website for race preference.
- 19% of the listings accepted Indian tenants
- 37% stated no preference for a race.
- On average, Indians have to pay 19% (RM107) more in monthly rent than non-Indians
This is a really bad racism issue in the Malaysian rental market for sure, perhaps the Government can do something regarding this and landlord can have a more open mindset when it comes to renting out their unit because we are Malaysian right? We can always ask for more details on the tenant before renting it out instead of straight blocking or mentioned a certain race is not allowed. Correct?
