M’sian Artist Team Up To Decorate Air Itam In Penang With Six New Murals as New Attraction

Air Itam in Penang is famous for their laksa and other street food here, a group of artist has team up with the Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang to help attract tourist on their latest project of six piece murals and a sculpture. This artwork were created before CNY under the project of “My Home, Air Itam”, which sparked the idea of mostly tourist will visti Penang hill and Kek Kok Si Temple or having the laksa here, and with this new approach, it can make Air Itam a touristic place as vacation as tourist can visit the town for these mural art.
Ng has team up with curator Tan Chor Whye from Can Can Public Art PLT and they have come up with few artwok here such as Dana Ng, a 22-year-old artist who made three out of the six mural, which is the Laksa, Trendiness and Kites Got Stuck. While Amir Andhar, a mural artist and graffiti practitioner from Malacca has created the Generation to Generation artwork which is the largest measusing 20 feet by 35 feet. While the famous susu tarik artwork is made by artist Khow Zew Wey, who is known as Bibichun, Curry Mee Ah Mah by Sarawakian artist Leonard Siaw on the two famous Siamese sister Lim Kooi Lye, 87 and Lim Kooi Heang, 89 who are famous for their curry mee. And lastly, the sculpture of Sunda the slow loris who will bid you goodbye as you are leaving Air Itam.
In future, Ng also mention that these mural might have QR codes, so visitor can get information and story behind each of this artwork.
