Malaysian-American Creates History Mark As the Youngest Mayor Of City in California
Did you all know that we have a Malaysian born American who is a new Mayor of Eastvale, a city in northwestern Riverside County, California? Jocelyn Yow who has been serving in the position as Mayor pro-tem this past year has appointed on 10 December to serve as mayor of a California City. Yow, 25 years old which is also a mother and she is also a graduate of Norco College and UC Berkely where she is still currently pursuing her master’s degree in government at Harvard Extension.
In the past, she has served as district representative for the California State Senate and also working tirelessly to help seniors, families, small businesses, nonprofit organizations and children to access valuable government services. While her mother is a Vietnamese refugee and her father is a Malaysian immigrant and both her parents got together in San Jose, California where she was born later on.
Yow also mentioned that she had moved back to her paternal grandfather in Alor Setar, Kedah in 1996 when she was just a year old and stay around 10+ years there where she learns more about her family history, heritage and culture and later on when she turned 16 she returned back to the US with her brother to attend college and their parents followed 2 years later.
She is really one powerful and important person in an overseas country for sure now!~
