Malaysia Has Fake DatukShip Titles Which Can Purchase Online From RM80K
If you all have notice, lately there are more and more notorious stories about some datuk causing troubles in the country where all these new went viral. Finally there is an explanation for all this madness where apparently an average Malaysian can purchase a fake Datukship title online for the price of RM80,000 to RM120,000 and according to the Council of Federal Datuks of Malaysia (MDPM), they have been receiving complaints of bogus titles being sold on Facebook, Whatsapp and even online stores.
One particular association has been running rampant online selling credentials, medals, car emblems and other paraphernalia of a certain state for a fixed fee and the fees are RM80,000 for Datuk and RM120,000 for Datuk Seri. MDPM vice-president Datuk Abdul Razak Dawood stated that this scam is becoming a trend, especially for youths as a means to boost their ego and status within the realms of business propositions.
Under the Emblems and Names (Amendment) Act, a convicted offender can face a fine of RM20,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both, while those guilty of soliciting awards or trying to sell fake awards will face up to 20 years in jail under the Awards Act 2017.
The website by the Prime Minister’s Department offers an online service to the public to check and verify recipients of awards conferred by the Agong, sultans, or governors in Malaysia. You can either key in a name in the ‘Carian’ search box or choose a person’s State (Peringkat), Title (Anugerah), and Year Awarded (Tahun Kurniaan) to see if they are in the list.
