Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) Stated It would Be Illegal To Possess Other Person My Card, With Fine Up To Rm20,000
According to the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN), it would be a violation of the law to hold another’s an identity card.
Under Article 25 of the National Registration Act of 1990, it would be illegal to possess or store the Identity Card of others. However, Article 7 of this decree allows authorized law enforcement officers to hold other people’s Malaysian cards.
Authorized law enforcement personnel include National Registration Bureau officials, police officers, customs officials, military personnel performing garrison and security tasks, or law enforcement personnel authorized by the Director of National Registration Bureau are the only one which has permission to hold onto someone else identity card with valid reason.
Anyone who illegally holds another person’s Makkah will be fined no more than 20,000 ringgits, or imprisoned no more than 3 years, or both.
