Incase You Caught in a Car Accident and How You can Settle It With Proper Steps
We all know that accidents happen all the time especially when you are driving on the road of Malaysia here, which you will encounter all sort of driver as even with the technologies today and people tend to use the phone while driving time. That is why more and more car manufacturers are equipping the car with more safety technologies nowadays. However, the accident will still happen and this is what you should do if you happen to get caught in it.
1. Move your car to a safer place in case if you have caught in the accident and try to capture a brief photo of where and how the accident occurs as further proof for the accident investigation later.
2. Take pictures and discuss with the other party when both of you reach a safe place away from the busy street. And remember to take down other party names, numbers, addresses, driver’s license numbers, license plate, and insurance information.
3. Agreement of settlement wherein most minor accident, both party can agree on the amount that is payable to the party at fault and if the accident is serious then the problems should be made at the nearest police station as insurance coverage will come to this part.
4. Police report at Police Station will require you to bring along your driving license and identification card, but before you go to any police station, please make sure that you call up the police station to check which designated Police station you should head to and you might have to drive your damaged car to the police station for proof. If you should be responsible for the accident, the officer will issue you a summons and then the police will give you a report a few days later after the investigation, do remember to get a copy of this investigation report which will usually cost you rm2.
5. After your police report, in case you are required to claim insurance for your car damage due to the damage will involve a large amount of repair costing. You might want to claim it from your insurance and do note that if you make a claim on your policy, the NCB discount on your insurance will get void, and generally, you will lose some or all the NCB benefits. While, if you were hit by another car and the report mentioned it wasn’t your fault then you can reclaim from the other car’s insurer while your NCB won’t get affected.
6. The last step is after you have made all the necessary steps above, you can send your car to the approved workshop and the insurance company will send an adjuster to assess the damages of your car and you should be back on the road in no time.
