Did you know that Andy Lau has a doctorate?

On December 14th last year, Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau received an honorary doctorate from Shue Yan University.
What doctorate did he received? Andy Lau was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa. This honorary usually awarded to those who have distinguished themselves in areas other than science, government, literature or religion.
The “Heavenly King” joined Hong Kong’s TVB station in 1981, and has more than 60 films under his belt.
Aside from being a great actor, he is also a prolific singer where holding more than 500 concerts since 1984, with over 48 million albums sold.
In 1994, he set up the Andy Lau Charity Foundation to help the needy.
During the ceremony, his speech was only one liner (that’s a quick thank you note)! He only said: “No worries, I am not going to make a speech, thank you.”

He did spent sometimes talking to press after the ceremony saying he was “very glad to be able to receive such an honour.”
“I hope I can be a role model for young people. No matter how humble your beginnings are, no matter how adverse the situation you are in, there is no excuse for you not to do your best or work your hardest to strive for excellence.”
He was also asked about why his wife, Carol Chu Lai-sin, and daughter did not show up, but Lau joked: “I fear they would steal the limelight from me.”
