Hokkien Mee? Prawn Mee? Tai Lok Mee? It is KL vs Penangites Confusion name again
The famous stir-fried noodles with thick dark soy sauce which will never be a wrong dish when you are craving for some noodles for your lunch or dinner time. However, the dish which is popular with all Malaysians, and the local somehow is arguing that the mee has different name on 2 different states. Where KL and PJ people are calling this dish as Hokkien Mee while Penangities are calling it as prawn mee.
Traditionally this noodle are stir friend not just with thick dark soy sauce but also prawn stock which is why it is called prawn mee. And the name were actually totally opposite between the prawn mee and hokkien mee. The origins of the hokkien mee was created by Wong Kian Lee, a Chinese immigrant from the Fujian province of China, who came to the country in 1905 and lived in the area known as Kampung Baru today.
