Hacktivist Group Anonymous M’sia Come Back Again Vows on Cyber-Attack on Govt Data Breaches

On 25 January, the Anonymous Malaysia, a group of hacker or activists or hacktivist has resurfaced again after more than five years to pledge the cyberattack against government website and online assets called #OpsWakeUp21. In the video and post which it released on social media account, the group mention that this warning should serve as a wake-up call for the government of Malaysia where it has accused of keeping silent over many data breaches and sales of personal information of citizens in the past few years.

They even mention that the security system is low and all data may be leaked where it can lead to unwanted hacker selling all information. The video which were a 2.29 minutes which feature a man using the Guy Fawkes mask a symbol which has been co-opted among other by the global Anonymous movement which is seen reading out from a paper. The voice was overlaid over the video which was believed to be using broken English and the speech was preceded by a one-minute song, Ain’t No Grave by Los Angeles based artist Hidden Citizen.

In the speech, the Anonymous has pointed to the 2017 telecommunication company data hack which affected 46 million users, spam and cyber scam text message and cyberattack against the Malaysian Armed Forced network last month. The group also mentioned that Putrajaya allegedly does not support the developers behind such digital assets where the developers themselves do not take ownership of their own codes.

The Anonymous groups is a decentralized international movement which started around 2003 and 2004 targeting government and their agencies and also major corporations which usually holding anti-cyber surveillance and anti-cyber censorship views.
