GoDaddy Employees Received Phishing Email Which Fakes on USD$650 Bonus
GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain registrar company on 14 December, the US company has sent its employees an email that thanked them for their hard work, and they are rewarded for a holiday bonus of USD$650 (RM2,625). But as 2 days later, about 500 employees of this company were informed that they have failed a phishing test, and they are required to take a training course on social engineering.
As the technique of phishing is widely used by hackers to obtain information or infiltrate a company’s network by passing off as a trusted source to gain access to a company information such as username and password. Plus, the practice of phishing test is nothing new in big company, which usually this company are usually employing these cybersecurity companies to conduct such test to check how easy their employees are to these attacks.
But due to the timing for this phishing activities were in a wrong time, it somehow gives some huge impact of their staff. GoDaddy has then apologized after the email incident and issued a statement on the phishing attempt.
