The Bukit Mertajam or parliament, Steven Sim Chee Keong has taken the opportunity to reflect on the value of other people where he was inspired by a Foodpanda rider who has been riding a borrowed, broken bicycle in order to earn a living. Where he shared on his Facebook page that he decided to help him by purchase a new motorcycle to ease the rider’s burdens.

The rider, Mohamed has been riding a bicycle through the rain and heat for the sake of his daily food and he continues on even during the fasting month. Steven asked him that why he was still riding a bicycle and not a motorcycle instead and he answered that he didn’t have a motorcycle and even the bicycle that he borrowed from a friend, the seat and another aspect of the bicycle was quite broken but he accepted it as a path for him to make an honest living.

Mohamad, a 22-year-old who has moved to Penang from Kelantan for work where his family is not rich but prioritize education and Mohamad has 10 siblings which his father is a religious teacher and he himself is a graduated with Polytechnic diploma in engineering. But sadly, he only earns RM500 a month from his job which is barely enough to eat, and thankfully he has a friend who is helping him with his room rental.

Mohamad also said that he usually will rest for an hour and he would paddle until 11 pm where he would get around rm20 – rm30 a day which is enough to eat a few times. Sometimes he has to eat nasi lemak only to save more money. Upon hearing Mohamad’s story, Steven knew that he has to help but when he asked how he could help, Mohamad was too shy to answer. Then Steven decided to buy him a motorcycle and initially, he couldn’t believe it but when he took him to the motorcycle shop in Bukit Mertajam, he was touched.

Steven paid for the motorcycle including its road tax, insurance, and even a full tank of gas. So Mohamad now can immediately ride it has to have the advantage to make more delivery and he can even go back to Kelantan to see his parents too.
