Female Director Accused of Selling Illegal 6 TV boxes and Fined 30,000 of infringing Astro TV copyright
A director of a mobile accessory company was fined RM30,000 in default a month’s jail by the Sessions Court here, today for possessing TV media boxes which contain software to illegally obtain paid television channel’s content via the internet.
The illegal possession and sale of 6 tv boxes were accused of stealing the intellectual property rights of Astro pay TV station where a Chinese female director of a mobile phone parts company was in the Shah Alam court today, where she pleaded guilty and was fined Rm30,000 as RM5,000 for each TV box fine and required one month in jail instead and paid a heavy price.
The 46-year-old defendant Huang Lili becomes the first person to be punished under Article 232 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 after pleading guilty to all six counts. The 6 complaints stated that the defendant owner 6 iBoite-X TV boxes capable of broadcasting the content of the MyTV.Apk application which could be broadcast free of charge by Measet Broadcast Network System Sdn Bhd (Malaysian Satellite Broadcasting System) without paying a subscription fee and the content is provided by the operating company of Astro.
The defendant also being in charge of obtained and being stolen on the spot at approximately 2.30pm on December 12, 2019, at Putra Prima Garden in Puchong, Selangor and she can be punished by a fine of up to RM300,000, imprisonment for up to 3 years or both.
He said that the defendant’s monthly income from doing business was between 7,000 and 8,000 ringgit, which was all used for household expenses.
