Famous Ramly Burger, Did you Know Who Is the Founder behind it?
When it comes to the street burger in Malaysia, the name of Ramly burger will appear. Where this iconic brand has becomes the famous street food brand of Malaysia. It becomes so famous that even the U.S filmmaker George Motz even reviewed that he has to made his own version of the famous Ramly burger.
Ramly burger founder, Ramly bin Mokni whois born in Tanjung Piandang is the 8th child out of a whopping 16 siblings. Where he grew up in Sekinchan, then he migrated to Kuala Lumpur to look for a better job and little did he know he was on the path to create the iconic burger brand empire that will benefit almost 30,000 Malaysian micro entrepreneurs.
It all started in 1978, when Ramly who is a meat cutter began reading news about halal burgers, during that time many Malaysia voiced their concerns of the imported burger patties were halal or not. Sensing a business opportunity, Ramly with his wife as business partner, Puan Shala Siah binti Abdul Manap begin their own burger patties.
Ramly faced a tough time to obtain a loan to start his business because agencies and banks rejected his application then he decided to kick-start his business with just RM2,000 and begun producing 200 burger patties a day, as lacking of resources these patties were created by handmade. Initially the sales were bad in the first but it didn’t stop Ramly. As Ramly then opened his first tiny burger stall in Chow Kit where the experimented the flavours of the patties on more local taste.
Which then later it leads to more demand, and he started to producing 3,000 patties in a day as business was booming, he registered the company in 1980. Within 4 years, he has opened 100,000 square feet factory in 1984 and another after a few years later. Later on, his production went up to producing 1 million patties daily where he started to produce other frozen meat such as meatballs, sausages, nuggets, minced meat and others.
In 2018, he has to build another larger factory which lead to his company hitting the annual sales of Rm1 billion on the following year, as today Ramly’s product can be found in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and even Bangladesh. Here in Malaysia, he has 16 Ramly Halal Marts and 12 Ramly halal Kiosks and not counting those mini burger street stalls yet.
