Exemption of Driving License and Motor Vehicle License Renewal

EXCLUSION OF RENEWAL DRIVING LICENSE AND MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE WILL END ON AUGUST 31, PUBLIC IS GIVEN TIME UNTIL 30 SEPTEMBER TO RENEW EACH OTHER LICENSE.
When the Movement Control Order (PKP) was first implemented in March 2020, the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) through the Road Transport Department (JPJ) granted the Malaysian Driving License (LMM) and Motor Vehicle License (LKM) renewal exemption during the PKP period to the public. This is to avoid congestion at the counters of the relevant agencies.

The public is allowed to drive and use their respective vehicles during the PKP implementation even if their LMM or LKM has expired, provided that the vehicle has valid insurance coverage and is still in force. Currently, exemptions for LMM and LKM reforms are still in effect as long as the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control (Declaration of Local Area of Infection) Order 2020 is still in force. Since PKPP, all JPJ counters have been fully opened as usual.
Given the extension of PKP after 31 August 2020 as per the Special Message of the YAB Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on 28 August 2020, then this exemption will be terminated through a specific revocation instrument. However, people who have expired LMM and LKM are still given time to renew it within 30 days until 30 September 2020.
The repeal of this exemption is in line with the power of the Minister under sections 66 (1) (x) and 127 (1) (b) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) which provides for the Motor Vehicle (Exemption) Rules 2020.
MOT always understands the needs of the people and will continue to play a role as a caring ministry, especially in these difficult times. At the same time, the public is reminded to always get authentic information and not spread fake news. In addition, people who visit JPJ counters or any agency under MOT are advised to always comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council in an effort to free the country completely from the COVID-19 pandemic.
