Ex Staff Exposes Racism and Bullying at the Hub Coffee Roaster
Melissa Wathan had a big dream when she left her job at her previous company and ventured into the Malaysian coffee industry however, with just the beginning of her journey, she has an encounter with one of the most reputable coffee companies in the Coffee speciality industry.
IN 2020 October, she met the owner of The Hub Coffee Roaster, Nicholas at their outlet at Plaza Zurich Damansara and she was honoured to be talking with him and he gave her the service and comfort despite being someone young in the field and later he even offered Melissa a job as they were short of staff. After a few days, she accepted the job and she clarified that she had zero experience with espresso but he reassured her that it will be fine and all matter is if she is willing to show a positive attitude at work.

She first started her training at their OUT outlet and she said the baristas were extremely friendly however in February 2021, Melissa was asked to help out on their outlet at Damansara Heights which she was excited for this as it was her dream to work there, but thing didn’t turn out well there.
ON the first day, she mentioned that one of the baristas there told her that she wasn’t needed there and they have mentioned it to Nicholas and Melissa ignored these comments and resumed her work as she’s only working in Damansara outlet twice a week but as the weeks passed, the verbal abuse becomes more and more imminent and Melissa was devastated when she was asked to work at Damansara outlet for four times a week.
Melissa did bring up this to the owner however the owner reassured that they are aware of this and will look into the matter and instead of she is relief, the thing got worst as the opposite happy with Joey calling her worthless and fu*king lazy all the time in training and Joey and another employee are very direct and sarcastic with anyone they are training.
Joey also said that βmana adalah, Indians uselessβ which she turned to her and said that she didn’t mean her and the rest of the time, she will continuously yell at for not being good at the espresso routine, but Melissa was silent even though she was demotivated and she knew her journey with the Hub Coffee Roaster was over so she texted the owner’s wife saying that she would like to resign.
As she spoke with the owner on the phone, Melissa also fel so unheard as the owners kept telling that they needed both the girls as they know how to manage the outlet and they requested Melissa to take the next day off and on next day, Melissa received a text saying that they have accepted her resignation as it was a better choice since she was unhappy working there.
Nicolas later admit that he made a terrible mistake for not being diligent enough in ensuring the best environments for her to grow a speaking of Joey he has despite her overbearing character, she is rather simple-minded when it comes to getting a thing done even at the expenses of offending people around her.
They added that they have spoken to Joey about this and she is willing to change. They apologised again to Melissa which they said was against the βadvice given by many of our business associates who puts the interest of our business above anything else.β
