What is the Dress Code on Polling Day?
There has been lotsa news on dress code on polling day and this has causes massive confusion especially to those first-time voters
Many people has raise important question: what is exactly the dress code for voting on polling day? Is there any specific dress code that I must abide so I will not get kicked out when I am at the voting place.
Earlier last week, there was a viral message circulating on the internet urging people to wear as if they are visiting a government office. Meaning that the voters are not supposed to wear the following clothes:
- Slippers Ripped
- Torn jeans
- Shorts
- Short dress
- Sleeveless tops/Spaghetti straps
- Miniskirts
But how true is this? The EC quickly officially confirmed stating that it’s fake news.
“The EC has not and will not prevent a voter from entering a polling station as long as the voter is appropriately dressed,” said EC’s chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah.
The only thing that the voters preferably not to wear is that their clother bear a preferred party’s logo, then it’s all good.
“Section 26(1)(g) of the Election Offences Act 1954 states that a voter is not allowed to enter the polling station if the voter wears any clothes or carry items that display the name of candidates, their symbol or a party logo,” explained Hashim.
But either way, we don’t la dress not appropriate to vote. You wouldn’t want people to turn attention to you.
