Dimsum Video Streaming Service Will comes to an End By 30 Sept

The Star Media Group Berhad (SMG) has announced that they will close down the Dimsum Entertainment video streaming services by 30th September 2021. Which this movement was due to the group’s venture into new ventures as the management has identified a number of new opportunities the group will explore further into its position in the industry. While the Dimsum team will be redeployed within the group to work on various ongoing and new projects in a different line.
SMG CMO of product and innovation Lam Swee Kim mentioned that the decision was difficult but they are also excited to explore the new venture in the new future. The group thanked the support they have received from all customers over the year. Dimsum was launched in November 2016 as a Malaysian-based video-on-demand platform that focuses on Asian content which has obtained exclusive simulcast rights from China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan.
SMG has recently appointed Alex Yeow Wai Saw as their new CEO who took the role on 1st March 2021 which he replaced the media veteran Andreas Vogiatzakis who has left the position in May 2020 after just nine-month on the job. SMG also posted a net loss of RM19.72 million for the financial year of 2020.
