December 29, 2020 The Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow rainstorm warning (Dec 30-Jan 2)
The Malaysian Meteorological Administration has issued a yellow-level heavy rain warning to many states and regions in the country. Many regions are expected to accompany the new year with heavy rain.
Yellow heavy rain warning 1:
- Date: December 30-31, 2020
Affected areas: The inland areas of Sabah, the west coast areas, as well as Kudat (Kota Marudu) and Labuan will face heavy rain during this period.
Yellow heavy rain warning 2:
- Date: December 31, 2020-January 2, 2021
Affected areas: Terengganu ((Marang, Dungun & Kemaman), Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan &Rompin), Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing & Kota Tinggi) will face heavy rain during this period
Yellow heavy rain warning 3:
Date: January 1-2, 2021
Affected areas: Kelantan and Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu & Kuala Terengganu) are expected to face heavy rain during this period.
When issuing weather warnings, the Meteorological Administration of Malaysia generally uses 3 colors, namely yellow, orange and red to classify. The yellow level is relatively mild, while the orange level is moderate, and the red level is the most serious.
According to previous forecasts by the Bureau of Meteorology, in the early stage of the northeast monsoon from November to December 2020, strong showers are expected to occur in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang on the east coast. In January 2021, strong showers are expected to occur. Concentrated in Pahang, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
At the end of January 2021, the northeast monsoon will enter the second phase. At this time, the northern states of West Malaysia including Kedah, Penang and Perlis, as well as Kelantan, will face a relatively dry climate.
