The HL-2M Tokamak reactor in Chengdu, Sichuan province is designed to use a powerful magnetic field to fuse hot plasma at temperatures of 150 million celsius which is 10 times hotter than the sun’s core. This reactor is referred to as artificial sun due to its enormous heat and power it produces, as Chinese scientists have been working on a smaller version of the technology since 2006 for a future large-scale power generation.

This new reactor will also provide technical support to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) which is the world’s largest reactor which is being constructed in Marseille, France. China is one of six countries, as well as the European Union, participating in the project.download - News

The scientist has been working on nuclear fusion which is seen as the holy grail of energy productions for decades and these reactors are intended to mimic the physics of stars by merging atomic nuclei which can be controlled and turned into electricity and unlike nuclear fission this nuclear fusion creates little radioactive waste and carries less risk of environmental disaster. images-4 - News

The estimates of the total costs of constructing and operating the ITER range between £17bn and £49bn, making it one of the world’s most expensive scientific projects. So other than AI or 5G as the latest trendy technologies from China and it seems Nuclear fusion is another new technology too.
