A Young M’sian is A National Karate Athlete and Author of A Book on SPM Maths
There is a talented child in Malaysia who she has won medals and more. Shahmalarani Chandran, a Bachelor in Science (Actuarial Studies) student at Taylor’s is not stranger to those who are familiarized in Karate world and she has won models at SUKMA Games and Southeast Asian Karate Championship but she has dropped out from the National Team on 2017 and 2019 to focus on her studies and it is certainly a pain for her to choose between her studies and passion, but she has not given up on her SEA games dream.
Other than this, she has been a mathematics tutor for the past four years and conducted tutorial session with SPM, IGCSE and degree students where as a Riser ambassador, and through The Risers community-engagement portal by Taylor’s College, Shahmalarani was recently given the opportunity to coach over 1,000 secondary school students on SPM Mathematics in an online workshop.
She is motivated to come up an idea for the workshop and write a mathematical handbook where it is the Maths Mastery Tools a handy formula booklet for Form Five students containing all mathematical formulas which are needed for their SPM examination. There are some useful advice that Shahmalarani where she mentions that practice makes perfect and always attempt a question and never tends to leave it blank.
Other than this, Shahmalarani also believes that karate and mathematics has a similarity and it helps in her tackling situation without hesitance. Lastly, Shahmalarani believes passion and eagerness to learn new techniques is important for students to progress in their learning.The Risers have partnered with YouthWorld Development and UniEnrol to deliver workshops on various SPM subjects conducted by teachers who are SPM examiners. The Risers have also launched an online SPM tuition sponsorship program to enable 500 Form Fice students to enjoy a three-month free online tuition, in partnership with MyTuition.
