If spicy noodles are your idea of a good time, Jaya Grocer has something interesting lined up for shoppers and food lovers this October. As part of Jaya Grocer K-Fest, the NONGSHIM Spicy Noodle Challenge is inviting participants to put their speed, appetite and tolerance for spicy food to the test.
Taking place at the LG Oval, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, the challenge will be held on selected dates from 6 to 11 October 2026. The idea is simple enough: participants have to finish their noodles and soup as quickly as possible, with the fastest person in each session taking the top spot.
It sounds easy when reading about it, but finishing a bowl of spicy noodles and the soup under the pressure of a timed challenge could be a completely different story.
Ready to take on the NONGSHIM challenge?
The NONGSHIM Spicy Noodle Challenge is not simply about eating a bowl of noodles. Participants will have to finish both the noodles and the soup, and speed matters. The fastest participant in each slot will be declared the winner, so anyone taking part will need more than just an appetite.
There is also an extra reason to join even if winning is not guaranteed. All participants stand a chance to receive NONGSHIM goodies, while the Top 3 fastest participants in each slot will have the opportunity to win even more prizes.
That makes this a fun activity for anyone who enjoys trying food challenges, especially those who are confident about their ability to handle spicy noodles.
For competitive eaters, the challenge could be a chance to see how fast they can really go. For casual participants, it is an opportunity to try something different during a visit to 1 Utama. Either way, there is a little something to look forward to.
When and where is the challenge happening?
The first session is scheduled for 6 October 2026 at 1:00 PM. There will be one slot on the day, with a maximum of 10 participants.
The challenge returns on 10 and 11 October 2026, with two slots available each day at 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM. Each slot can accommodate a maximum of 10 participants.
All sessions will be held at the LG Oval, 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
With such a small number of participants allowed in every slot, this is one event where leaving things until the last minute may not be the best strategy.
Limited places mean timing is important
One of the biggest things to take note of is that participation is limited to 10 people per slot, and the places are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
For the 6 October session, only 10 participants can take part. On 10 and 11 October, there will be two separate sessions each day, again with only 10 participants allowed in each slot.
That means there are only a limited number of opportunities to get involved. Anyone who already knows they want to participate should plan their visit accordingly rather than simply turning up much later and expecting a place to still be available.
This limited-slot arrangement also makes the challenge feel more competitive. With only a handful of participants in each session, every second can matter once the challenge begins.
Why should people go?
There are plenty of food promotions around shopping centres, but a food challenge offers something a little different. Instead of simply buying something to eat and heading home, participants can turn their visit into an experience.
The NONGSHIM Spicy Noodle Challenge is particularly appealing for people who enjoy spicy food and friendly competition. It gives participants a chance to test themselves while enjoying a well-known noodle brand at the same time.
It can also make for an entertaining activity with friends. Even if only one person decides to participate, friends and family can watch and provide some encouragement from the side. For those who enjoy recording memorable moments, a spicy noodle challenge can certainly become an interesting story to share afterwards.
And then there are the NONGSHIM goodies. Everyone who participates has a chance to win something, while the three fastest participants in every slot have the opportunity to take home additional prizes.
So, there is more motivation than simply proving who can eat the fastest.
A good stop during Jaya Grocer K-Fest
Since the challenge is part of Jaya Grocer K-Fest, visitors can make the most of their trip by exploring the wider event while they are at 1 Utama.
Rather than making the trip solely for the challenge, visitors can plan a little extra time to browse around, discover Korean-inspired products and enjoy the atmosphere of the festival. It can turn a quick shopping trip into a more enjoyable day out.
For regular Jaya Grocer shoppers, this is also an opportunity to experience something beyond the usual grocery run. Food festivals and themed events can make shopping more entertaining, particularly when there are activities that visitors can actually participate in.
Can you finish the soup too?
The most important detail to remember is that the challenge is not finished simply because the noodles are gone.
Participants have to finish the noodles and the soup, so anyone thinking about joining should be prepared for the full bowl. That is what makes the challenge more interesting and potentially much harder than it first appears.
Speed will be important, but participants also need to consider how they approach the bowl. Going too quickly could make things difficult when dealing with spicy noodles and soup, while taking too much time could put them behind the other competitors.
That balance is part of what makes the challenge exciting.
A chance to enjoy something different this October
For anyone looking for something fun to do at 1 Utama between 6 and 11 October, the NONGSHIM Spicy Noodle Challenge is worth considering.
There is no need to be a professional competitive eater to enjoy the experience. The event is designed around a simple idea that most people can understand: eat the noodles, finish the soup, and try to be the fastest.
The limited number of participants does mean that interested visitors should not wait too long to secure a place. Since registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, availability could fill up quickly.
Most importantly, participants should check the applicable terms and conditions before taking part. NONGSHIM has stated that it reserves the right to amend or cancel the challenge, prizes or terms without prior notice.
So, if spicy noodles are your thing and you fancy testing your eating speed, this could be a fun addition to a visit to Jaya Grocer K-Fest. Bring along some friends, choose a session that works for you, and see whether you have what it takes to conquer the bowl.
Just remember: finishing the noodles is only half the challenge. The soup has to go too.
