She is\u00a0Malaysia\u2019s First Female Deputy Prime Minister<\/h4>\n

This shows that woman are now the leading force even for country and it’s a stepping stone towards a day for more woman to take up the leader role in our country. In this segment, we will tell you 7 the things that you should know about Wan Azizah that makes her such an inspirational woman.<\/p>\n

1. Her Background Check<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah was born on December 3, 1952 not in Malaysia but in Singapore.Even though she is born in Singapore but she is truly Malaysian<\/p>\n

She was later brought up in Kedah. She then went on to pursue her tertiary education at Tunku Kurshiah College in Seremban before furthering her studies in medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She was awarded a gold medal in obstetrics and gynaecology and later graduated as a qualified ophthalmologist.<\/p>\n

She worked in a government hospital for 14 years until her husband Anwar Ibrahim was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister in 1993 and thus decided to shift to voluntary work instead, namely with the National Cancer Council.<\/p>\n

2. She is Mother and as well as a Grand Mother<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

While she has been prominent in the political scene, but many of us might tend to forget that Wan Azizah is also a mother (of six children) and grandmother (to nine grandchildren). As per\u00a0her eldest daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar, she told the media that their mother never neglected her family despite her busy political career.<\/p>\n

3. She’s strong and devoted<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

She was never a politician but this all turns when\u00a0her husband,\u00a0 Anwar was arrested and then sentenced to jail in 1999. In order to save her husband, she did everything she could to help him. She led the Reformasi movement, the civil rights NGO Social Justice Movement (ADIL), and then established Parti Keadilan Nasional (PKN) all in the same year, which saw her elected as the party president. That isn’t all but she did all that while raising her kids.<\/p>\n
